What to look for in DDR4 memory
Consider these few specs as you’re browsing DDR4 RAM options.
- Capacity: Decide how much RAM is “enough” for the headroom you may want for your gaming and software.
- Platform compatibilities: Use the filters here to be sure that the RAM you’re considering will work with your system.
- Speed and voltage rating: We’ve tested our DDR4 RAM to match peak speeds and voltage requirements so you know what you’re getting.
- Design: Some of our RAM sticks feature iCUE RGB lighting, while others are more understated.
Is DDR4 RAM good for gaming, or do you need DDR5?
You may be thinking “is the older DDR4 RAM protocol enough for my modern gaming needs?” And rightfully so, because if your RAM isn’t keeping up, you may find a bottleneck when gaming. It’s true that DDR5 RAM does feature higher top speeds, however, in practice, this will likely only matter if you’re really using your RAM load with heavy files—but it’s important to note. Perhaps the more important limitation is that DDR4 RAM can only support up to 32GB in a stick (compared to DDR5’s 128GB). You can get around this by going for the CORSAIR 48 GB configuration, but it is a technology holdback. But overall, DDR4 is still plenty capable, especially if you are running your games at measured settings and aren’t doing a ton of pre-rendered media work.
