What to look for in a small form factor PC case
While the considerations for any PC case are similar, there’s a slight nuance when you’re looking at compact cases. Here’s what to consider:
- Space constraints: Look closely at the drive slots, radiator compatibility, cable management, and general clearance inside your compact case.
- Power supply: SFX or ATX, generally differing in size.
- Design: Choose from a few colors, and consider whether you want a tempered glass window.
- Motherboard and component support: Be sure that the pieces to your PC puzzle will fit in this particular box.
Is a mini PC as good as a full-sized PC?
As with most things in the tech space, balancing sleekness and performance can be a trade-off. While there are plenty of PC components that generate a lot of heat and are, thus, better suited in a case with lots of space, that doesn't mean a small form-factor PC case can’t be a suitable platform. Still, to get the most performance out of your graphics card and processor, be sure to space things accordingly in your small tower case, and include plenty of cooling components like liquid CPU coolers and exhaust fans. With that said, small form-factor PCs today are more capable than they’ve ever been.
